X user @krshaafaye revealed earlier this week that singer and vlogger Claudine Co, the daughter of former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Christopher Co and niece of Rep. Elizaldy Co, recently removed her Instagram and YouTube pages over a backlash surrounding the businesses of her father and uncle, who were among the contractors receiving the bulk of flood control projects.
Her boyfriend, Lemuel Lubiano, is the son of Centerways Construction and Development owner Lawrence Lubiano, who reportedly had ties with Senate President Francis Escudero.
Co’s cousin, Elyza, was also outed by the X user. Elyza is the daughter of Rep. Elizaldy Co and had posts depicting a lavish lifestyle. Her account is currently set to private.
Also revealed on the user’s X thread was Angela Alonte, the daughter of former House deputy speaker Len Alonte, who held a birthday party that closed a road amid heavy flooding in Biñan City. She is also related to Mayor Angelo Alonte.
Others that came under scrutiny were the Enciso siblings, Verniece and Vern, whose father, Verne Enciso, works for the Bureau of Customs, as well as former president Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter and Vice President Sara Duterte’s sister, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte.
Social media erupts: Politicians' children face backlash for flaunting wealth

On his Facebook page, The Manila Times columnist Carl Balita asked if the children of politicians deemed abusive and greedy should be embarrassed online.
“Is it right to include the children of abusive government officials and greedy contractors? Is it fair to bully them for the sins of their parents, who provide them with the luxury they are enjoying?” Balita asked in Filipino on Thursday.
Capiz City municipal planning and development coordinator Lorna Bernales commented that while bullying is wrong, actions have consequences.
“No one has the right to bully anyone for whatever reason there may be. But all actions have consequences, and the children are collateral damage [to] their parents’ decision,” she wrote.
“The problem isn’t just being a son or daughter. The problem is flaunting privilege that may have been funded by public money... tone-deaf, offensive and disrespectful to ordinary Filipinos. So no, children shouldn’t be bullied. But yes, they should be mindful. If your wealth comes from questionable sources or corruption, don’t flaunt it. Because silence can be innocence, but flaunting makes you complicit,” Anne Jane Gamboa said.
“Yes! To make these people realize that their actions, bad or good, can greatly affect their families. Lesson learned the hard way,” wrote Maggie Seron Nogar.
“The parents must know in the first place that their children will be part of the consequences of their actions! Responsible parenthood is not all about providing the needs of their children, but building good characters and inculcating values, and being their role models as well... Their names are their legacy, so if they want their children to inherit the good names, they must be totally responsible for their actions,” wrote Gerald Bernales Bagnes.
“The accountability of the children depends on how complicit they are in the wrongdoings of their corrupt parents. For example, if a child is too young to understand that their livelihood comes from stolen wealth, they might still be excused. But if they grow up and become fully aware of their parents’ crimes, yet continue to enjoy the stolen riches, then they are no longer innocent!” wrote former Kabataan representative Raoul Manuel in a Facebook post, sharing Balita’s survey.
